World Health Organization (WHO) Standard Classifications

For adults aged 20 years and older, the World Health Organization defines the following universal cutoff ranges:

  • Underweight: BMI below 18.5 kg/m²
  • Normal / Healthy Weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m²
  • Overweight: BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 kg/m²
  • Class I Obesity: BMI between 30.0 and 34.9 kg/m²
  • Class II Obesity: BMI between 35.0 and 39.9 kg/m²
  • Class III Obesity (Severe): BMI 40.0 kg/m² or higher
